St. Paul Church was established as early as 1854
and a building built around 1857 as Trundle’s Crossroads Methodist Church.
In 1980 the congregation reorganized as Seymour United Methodist Church and sold
the building to the Church of Christ. The Seymour Church of Christ closed their
church and sold the building to the congregation of St. Paul Church in 1995.
In 2005, the remaining members of St. Paul approached the Episcopal Diocese
of East Tennessee about beginning an Episcopal Church at St. Paul. The first
service, The Holy Eucharist, was held on August 7, 2005 at 4 PM. Services continued weekly
at 6 PM and subsequently at 10:30 AM. On Sunday October 30th, The Rt. Rev. Charles vonRosenberg
celebrated The Holy Eucharist and announced the formation of an Episcopal
Worshiping Community at St. Paul Church serving Seymour and South Knoxville,
Tennessee and surrounding communities. We believe that our Church has unique
contributions to make to the area.
